Swede Hill

Swede Hill – Austin Texas 78702

Swede Hill is located in the 78702 Zip Code just east of IH 35 and Downtown Austin Texas. Most historical homes in Swede Hill were built from about 1880 to 1938. If you are looking for something newly built and modern, you will love the Swede Hill Lofts at 807  East 14th Street in the Swede Hill area. With a grand view of the Texas State Capital, these condominiums are in a prime east Downtown Austin Texas location! Swede Hill was added to the National Registry of historic districts in 1986. Thankfully many of the original historic homes did survive and remain in Swede Hill. Unfortunately, the Swede Hill home my Mom and grandparents lived in at 1903 Red River did not survive and the site where it once stood is now part of the UT Campus west of IH 35.

Swede Hill REALTOR

I love Austin Texas History because my family is so tied into it. The Swedish part of my family came to the Austin area about 1871 or before. My mother lived in Swedish Hill on the neighborhood’s western border at 1903 Red River as a child. Unfortunately, her childhood home is no longer there and the lot is now part of the UT Campus. I guess it is no surprise that she and my grandparents all chose their final resting place in the old Oakwood Cemetery adjacent to the Swede Hill neighborhood. Oakwood Cemetery is the oldest city owned cemetery in Austin. I welcome you to my Real Estate practice and would love to hear about you and your family history!
